Secretary Report
After the draw was done a few matches of note flashed up at me, in the preliminary round Kieran McMahon v Alister Wilson 2 top class players in there own right, Kieran struggled to impress with the table running a litte slow, Kieran just back from International duty at Home Internationals in Prestatyn and playing on Professional standard tables just failed to impress and Alister win 3-0, if that wasn't hard enough for Alister he won the right to play Jordan Brown just back of the main tour, Jordan with that Rolls Royce cue action and professional etiquette round the table got of to a flyer with a 2-0 lead in best of 5 frames, the never say die attitude of Alister was on hand for all snooker players to see he battled back to win the next frame and 2-1 down.
Jordan still looked so confident each time he came to the table slipped up on frame 4 to the surprise of the viewing public Alister level at 2-2 frame decider, with sheer grit and determination Alister showed why his never gives up when playing snooker he stole the last frame to beat Jordan 3-2.
Another match that on paper would go all the way was home boy Sean Gray V Joe Meara, honours even after the 1st 2 frames left us all to say this looks like another 3-2 but to whom???? Joe Meara showed a touch of class with an excellent 92 break to win frame 3 although a lovely break Joe was disappointed not to clear the table he had a chance to claim the high break with a total clearance 140, striking the ball really well he won the match 3-1
The rest of the games went according to form, Declan Brennan beat Gary Doherty 3-0, Darren Oldroyd beat Cliff Carson 3-1,Stephen Shepherd beat Andrew Lilley 3-2, 2 young junior players came head to head both playing for the QE clubs Gary Johnston for the QE2 and Peter Berryman QE1, a fantastic match to watch both aslo just back after International duty, both very patient waiting for the other to make a mistake, again this match went to the wire and young Peter just edged out the winner 3-2.Marty McGoran V Paul Currie the Drumaness man winning 3-2, and finally Gary Crawford V Glenn Craig, Gary showed why he was selected Captain of the Senior team at the Home Internationals, a strong solid display to win 3-1.
